The first ride was held in 2012 at the suggestion of a family friend. It was, and continues to be an occasion for Amy’s family, friends, colleagues and students to remember and celebrate her life.
The ride starts and finishes at Vancouver Technical Secondary School where Amy was head of the Science Department. This is an easy paced 20km ride in small groups on bike friendly streets. At the turn around point near Kitsilano Beach the West Point Grey Girl Guides serve water and snacks.
In 2013 we were pleased to welcome the BC Transplant Society to the event, together with organ recipients and donors. This was especially meaningful because Amy was an organ donor.
In 2014 a 3.5km walk was added to the event for those who chose not to cycle but still wanted to take part in the event.
Riders and walkers meet again at Van Tech. to socialize and enjoy refreshments and prizes contributed by our generous sponsors.
Proceeds from the event go to the Amy Hurn Scholarship Fund.
